Meet Josh:
With over 28 years of experience in the corrections industry, Josh Carey brings firsthand operational knowledge to his role as Midwest Sales Manager at Real Time Detention. Having served as a sergeant, lieutenant, assistant jail commander, and jail commander, Josh has a deep understanding of facility needs, security challenges, and the importance of designing spaces that balance safety, functionality, and rehabilitation.
Josh’s extensive career in corrections provided him with unique insight into the daily operations of secure facilities. His experience overseeing jail operations, security protocols, and facility management allows him to offer practical solutions to architects, engineers, and facility decision-makers.
In 2022, he transitioned into the detention equipment industry, joining Real Time Detention to help improve correctional facility design, product selection, and project execution. His goal is to bridge the gap between security, efficiency, and rehabilitation, ensuring that facilities not only meet safety requirements but also support education and well-being for those incarcerated.
As Midwest Sales Manager, Josh assists agencies, A&E firms, and general contractors by educating them on industry-leading correctional products, fixtures, and furniture. He provides consultation and product expertise, ensuring that each facility receives solutions that enhance security, durability, and usability.
One of Josh’s most rewarding projects has been the Hamilton County Jail “North Pod” expansion. This project allowed him to apply his knowledge of facility operations to help integrate innovative detention equipment and functional layouts, enhancing both security and livability for inmates and staff.
Josh is passionate about transforming correctional environments to support both justice and rehabilitation. He believes in designing facilities that provide security for staff while also promoting education and growth for those incarcerated. By ensuring well-thought-out facility layouts and high-quality equipment, he helps create safer, more effective environments that serve both staff and inmates.
Outside of work, Josh enjoys traveling, always seeking to expand his understanding of the world. He is also passionate about cooking, embracing the creative side of the culinary experience. His love for DIY home projects challenges his problem-solving skills, and he is an avid reader, constantly learning and exploring new ideas.
